Tour Plan

08:00 AM Starting

picking you up at your hotel

I will pick you up at the front desk of your hotel to start your tour of the Valley of the Kings.

08:40 AM

The Kings’ Valley

One of Egypt’s most famous attractions, not just in Luxor, the Valley of the Kings must be seen to fully appreciate the nature of Egyptian religion and tomb architecture.

Ancient Egyptian tombs saw significant grave theft. Pharaohs of the New Kingdom tried to They chose to avoid building the pyramids and instead cut their graves deep within the mountain to avoid grave robbers.

There are 65 tombs in the Valley of the Kings until August 2020. Tuthmosis I (1506-1493 BC) of the 18th Dynasty was the first pharaoh to cut his tomb in the Valley of the Kings, and Ramses XI (1107-1078 BC) of the 20th Dynasty was the last.

You are permitted to visit three of the ten publically accessible tombs. I recommend visiting the top three opened tombs. Every tomb you visit will awe you with the beauty of its colours, inscriptions, and reliefs. Some of the reliefs show The pharaoh’s fate is connected to the underworld.

11:00 AM

Temple of Hatshepsut

Then journey to the Temple of the Female Pharaoh Hatshepsut.

Hatshepsut was one of the few female rulers of Egypt in ancient times. She ruled for approximately 20 years after her brother and husband, Tuthmosis II. Her name is immortal because of her temple, which we are visiting today in Deir El Bahary, Luxor.

Her temple is also architecturally distinct among Egyptian temples. The temple was built on three terraces, with the main purpose of honouring Hatshepsut as a male pharaoh or king. The first terrace of the temple is closed to the public due to damage. There are some fascinating stories on the second terrace, such as her divine birth from the sea the god Amun and her business trip to Punt (modern Somalia).

Some of Hatshepsut’s statues depict Osiris in mummy form. The female element of Hatshepsut’s visage is easily identified on the third terrace.
